Artist's Comments
Silk Shading, otherwise known as silk work and 'needle painting'. This is part of a bigger piece which will be finished in April 2009; the brief was simply to silk shade an animal of choice.
The technique uses single strands of stranded cotton in tiny needles, keeping many needles going at once - I think the most I had going in this piece was 11. The total number of colours in this piece is 21. Approx 55 hours |

We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. To help support the Literature community we hold regular contests. It is an opportunity for you to get involved and gain some exposure. Contest winners will be featured in a news article and a journal entry--as well as other fabulous prizes.
